The Rangers have activated 34-year old righty swinging catcher Matt Treanor from the D.L. Treanor has played in 64 games for the Rangers this year and he is 41 of 182 (.225 avg, .656 OPS) with 19 runs scored, 5 homers and 23 RBIs. To make room on the roster for Treanor the Rangers have demoted Taylor Teagarden to AAA. Teagarden has played in 21 games for the Rangers this year and he was 8 of 56 (.143 avg, .625 OPS) with 9 runs scored, 4 homers and 6 RBIs. Treanor will back up Bengie Molina the rest of the year.

The Rangers have activated 28-year old righty starting pitcher Rich Harden from the D.L. Harden started 15 games earlier this year for the Rangers and he was 4-4 with a 5.45 ERA and a 1.66 WHIP. The Rangers hope that Harden is a lot better this time around. To make room on the roster for Harden the Rangers have placed 27-year old righty Scott Feldman on the D.L. with a bone bruise in his right knee. Feldman has pitched in 25 games (20 starts) for the Rangers this year and he is 6-9 with a 5.43 ERA and a 1.59 WHIP.

The Rangers have signed 32-year old righty reliever Jesus Colome to a minor league deal. Colome pitched in 12 games (0 starts) earlier this year for the Mariners and he was 0-1 with a 5.29 ERA and a 1.53 WHIP. He has now pitched in 341 games (0 starts) in his 10 years in the majors and he is 19-27 with 6 saves, a 4.69 ERA and a 1.51 WHIP. This was a good signing for the Rangers as they are stocking up for September.

The new guys have not made as big of a impact as the Texas Rangers had hoped so far

Lefty starting pitcher Cliff Lee has had more than his share of bad luck so far for the Rangers. He has started 8 games for the Rangers this year and he is 2-3 with a 3.44 ERA and a 0.95 WHIP. He has 58 whiffs and only 4 walks in 65 1/3 innings for the Rangers as he is pounding the strike zone. But the Rangers’ D and offense have let him down so far. That could change at any time with the way Lee is pitching right now. Bengie Molina has been spotty with a bat in his hands so far for the Rangers. Molina has played in 30 games for the Rangers and he is 21 of 93 (.226 avg, .616 OPS) with 7 runs scored, 2 homers and 11 RBIs. The Rangers expect more out of the bat from him the rest of the way. Jorge Cantu hasn’t shown any power yet for the Rangers. He has played in 10 games for the Rangers and he is 9 of 30 (.300 avg) with 3 runs scored. Christian Guzman is on the D.L. and he was awful before getting hurt. Guzman has played in 10 games for the Rangers so far and he is 3 of 34 (.088 avg, .227 OPS) with 2 runs scored. The track record of these four players tells me that they are going to turn things around soon.

The Texas Rangers need Julio Borbon to pick up the pace

Expectations were high for 24-year old lefty swinging CF Julio Borbon after the rookie season he put up in 2009. Last year, Borbon played in 46 games in which he was 49 of 157 (.312 avg, .790 OPS) with 30 runs scored, 4 homers, 20 RBIs and 19 stolen bases. This year has been a different story for Borbon as he has struggled some. He has played in 96 games for the Rangers this year and he is 81 of 300 (.267 avg, .656 OPS) with 42 runs scored, 3 homers, 27 RBIs and 10 stolen bases. The Rangers would like it if Borbon got hot so they could use him in CF all of the time.
